Seabrook Island is a private 2,200-acre resort community located just 21 miles from historic Charleston. Completion of the island's three-year, $31 million Horizon Plan renovation project means that visitors to this year's Alan Fleming Tournament will not only have the opportunity to test their tennis skills against some of the best players around, they'll enjoy brand-new, top-notch amenities and facilities.
ResortQuest, a leading management company for vacation rentals in Seabrook, donates each year to the Alan Fleming Championship benefitting the Hospice of Charleston Foundation. ResortQuest and other donors' commitments will allow the Hospice of Charleston to continue in their mission of:
- Financially assisting low-income hospice patients through their Patient Assistance Grants Program (PAGP),
- Raising awareness about Hospice Care through a number of educational initiatives, and
- Supporting bereaved families through Shannon's Hope camp for children and Candlelight Memorial Ceremonies.
Charleston, S.C. Now "Best Tennis Town in America"!
Charlestonians and Island residents and guests that love the Lowcountry are excited about the USTA announcement that Charleston, S.C., placed first in the "Best Tennis Town in America" contest. Charleston captured the title and $100,000 for community tennis programming as part of USTA's second nationwide search. Representatives from the Lowcountry tennis community are thrilled with this honor and were present at the public unveiling of the "Best Tennis Town" winner at the US Open. In total, 82 cities entered the contest. Representatives from the top three vote-getting communities in contention for "Best Tennis Town" — Charleston, Atlanta, Ga., and Richmond, Va. — were all in attendance.
"I want to congratulate all of the local tennis entities who collaborated in the effort to bring this accolade to the Lowcountry," said Joseph P. Riley, mayor of the city of Charleston. "Placing in the Top 10, and then the Top 3, and now First Place has been a major victory in itself, bringing national attention and immense pride to Charleston."
